Immigration and Nationality Law for the USA > Temporary visas

  • Practically all of the visas mentioned here are non-immigrant visas, which require that the foreign national beneficiaries maintain a foreign residence in their country of origin
  • The candidate must demonstrate that his stay in the United States will be temporary; Consular officials are instructed to presume that every candidate is intending to immigrate
  • All temporary visas are identified by letters A to V (the most common of which are discussed here) which allow for stays in the U.S. from several months to many years. The beneficiary is generally limited in his/her activities in the U.S. by the type of visa he/she holds.
